New York/Sloan Media Trek Weekend Break

Highlights of quick New York weekend break, and random pics of the same...

1. Sloan Media Trek: I accompanied a bunch of Sloan MBA and some current MIT CMS students (my alma mater) to New York to see what a bunch of media companies were up to. Significant realization - big media companies really don't get the current moment of media change. Thus while the folks at NBC were all about "killing the downloaders" of one of their few hit shows like Passions, the guys at the miniscule Independent Film Channel were discussing innovative ways of making programming decisions by co-opting suggestions fromn their fans via the CEO blog. And then there was Court TV - whose exuberent CEO has made me into a lifelong fan - hey, he even managed to convince me about the grave social service that a channel like Court TV was providing to the American public by educating them about legal issues at large!
2. New York chilling, with Paul: I had a wonderful time chilling out with my friend Paul Knox. Paul, a gifted theatre writer and director knows New York like the back of his hand... between his innovative suggestions (the houseboats on the Hudson, high tea at Alice's Tea Kitchen... Central Park like I've never explored before) and my petulant desires (tram ride to Roosevelt island, hot chocolate at Serendipity, must-visit-everytime I'm in NYC meccas like Bergdoff's, Bloomingdale's and Macy's...), the one day vacation got me refreshed, rejeuvenated and all set for another crazy and exciting MIT week. Which, now that I think of it, I should return to, right away. :-)
