Yes, and her legs went on for ever...

Valentines Day! What a creation! People deride it. But I think it's truely an amazing concept. Like every other thing, it has it's place in everyones life.

For some Valentines day was one of two things. An opportunity for the fish to bite. Or an opportunity to reel the fish onto the deck; to put it in fishing terms. You either started this long and sometimes ardous trip of flowers, and presents. Somethign that might seem out of place in a society that was challenged with respect to shows of affection that had monetary value. Or, you had already done that in the past, and were on the verge of getting a return on your investment.

Actually, I'm putting it too brutally. In any non-sexual relationship (heard of those? think Clinton-Lewinsky!), there comes a time when you're ready to go to the next level. You're young, have 16th-century morals, and are both holed up in the back of a car or in a stairwell; waiting for a divine sign that says it's time to do it. The sign normally reads 'Valentines Day'. And bang! You've reached that next level. Pretty invaluable, what? I can imagine what must have happened in generations before St. Valentine walked this earth. There would be this huge army of high-testosterone, hormones-popping folks just waiting to have a go at each other; but not knowing when. If they were not fans of some cheap alcohol, they'd stay that way for ever. But thanks to Valentines days, you dont have to be 'under the influence' to make sound decisions. The 'No Alcohol Forum' should really use this line to keep people off nasty liquids that can spoil your liver.

Well, Valentine's Day is also a good excuse for those in a relationship already, to have a go at each other, in a romantic-shomantic setting, hanh. Very useful concept, this.
